We Blog The World: The Power of Social Media

12 August 2009: The growing power of social media in the travel industry was forcefully highlighted at the We Blog the World event held at Sir Stamford at Circular Quay on Wednesday 5th of August.

A panel of top ranking bloggers including Ben Groundwater (aka SMH The Backpacker), Tim Burrowes (Editor of Mumbrella) and Lorraine Elliott (aka Not Quite Nigella) joined moderator Kim McKay in discussing the importance of creating a presence, building an audience and generating interaction and feedback within the social media community.

With over 100 attendees from the travel world including writers, PRs and industry members, We Blog the World was one of the first social media forums that placed travel front and centre. The enthusiastic response from the audience during the panel Q & A illustrated that while the travel industry has a sound understanding of social media, there is still a way to go until it catches up with industries such as food and beauty.
